Let's get right to the big one, 'cause I'd like to concentrate on the NEXT POTM!
The Best Name Award: to LasBabasDelDiablo from sven.reichard ...
As Sven explains it all in his write-up:
"Being a film buff (my wife would say "movie freak"), I wanted
to get a cinematographical reference. Once I knew that the
problem was about printing photos it was clear that the movie
would have to be "Blowup" by Michelangelo Antonioni. This film
was based on a short story by J. Cortazar, entitled
"Las babas del diablo" (The slobberings of the devil).
Unfortunately I haven't yet found a translation of this story
to any language I can read..."
"The Slobberings Of The Devil" just held too much appeal.
The Most Functional Program Name to mbcrane_at_rogers_seeking_wrk_tdot from quirkz
Quirkz didn't explain the program name in the write-up ... an
explanation probably wsn't necessary.
The Biggest Stretch Program Name to MargaritaCarmenCansino from scotta
Scott writes:
"PicturePerfect first came to mind, but seemed a little simple, so the
next thought was who would take a perfect picture. Marilyn Monroe came
to mind, but I am not a big fan. Rita Hayworth came to mind next, but
using her well known name (mothers maiden name) seemed a little simple for
Fred, so using her full given name is was I chose."
For future reference - NOTHING is "too simple" for Fred
Best Reason For A Crappy Program Name goes to "tossy" from Kuno
Kuno writes:
All my "name finding energy" went into finding a name for my
daughter, born September 23, 2005.
Unfortunately Kuno didn't tell us what name was chosen for his new
daughter - I sure hope it wasn't "tossy" ...
Speed Demon (or is it Daemon) Award to carleysnightmare from dajones
While most of the leaders were chewing up 59+ seconds dajones
barely took enough time to register on the clock! dajones took
an overall fourth place ... just imagine what could have been done
if the other 59 seconds were used!
Best Non-Compiled Entry clearly goes to tossy by Kuno
A python entry in second place overall ... VERY nice!
One day I'll win this category ... yes I will!
The Procrastinator's Oh-No Award to scrappy by eisele
Submitting an entry on the last day before the deadline
probably isn't a good idea ... even if it is in python.
Eisele kept trying until ten minutes before midnight to
no avail ... narrowly missing the next award.
The Procrastinator's Sign Of Relief Award to Final_Entry by BobBlack
BobBlack submitted an entry that DID pass system tezxt four
minutes before the deadline ... it may not have solved any
of the final problems, but it DID make the system test cut!
The Honest Programmer Award to Sven Reichard
Sven let me know about a glitch that exposed some potential
final tests to the masses ... my faith in humankind (and
programmers) is restored. (One of the reasons that the POTM
went into hiatus for four years was because of a cheat that
managed to make it to the final rounds of an elimination
tournament before being revealed.) Thank you Sven ... and
thank you aminallam who let me know the SECOND time I screwed
up and revealed a possible final problem.
The Thanks for Helping Award to HotblackDesiato for his scorer
The Best Comment From Slacker Awaard goes to those comments in
the forums from folks who never got around to submitting an entry.
billybob: "Real Programmers use exhaustive search" ... I guess
billybob was too exhausted to start coding ...
rhmorrison: "Keep up the good work Fred" ... was a comment when
I added the graphical output for GLOSSY. Bob is
the graphics guru I usually call upon for help -
so I guess he was happy to be left alone.
mossey and Gassa who contributed early tothe problem definition
with some good ideas ... but were then apparently
distracted
Thanks everyone for yet another POTM ... this one was obviously
a lot tougher than NUTS, but I hope the journey was worth the effort.
